It's pretty cool being in the fly fishing business for the past 30 years, I've had to the opportunity to meet and in some cases fish with some of the best fly fishermen in the world. I got to take off early from work Sunday and fish with George Daniel after he finished his nymph clinic he did for us. As you can see, he had no problem catching some nice Farmington trout. What a great guy- he's a world class angler, fantastic instructor/presenter, and just a generally cool dude to hang out with. Currently George is probably the biggest name in fly fishing, he's a Central PA guy who was mentored by Joe Humphries & George Harvey, and he's fished all over the world with the best competition anglers on the planet. He has two books out now ("Dynamic Nymphing" & "Strip-Set"), with a third one in the works. His 2 books cover nymphing & streamer fishing, and both are the last word on the subjects- we carry both in the store. Total flow in Catch & Release section is a very nice 196cfs (93cfs from dam in Riverton) this morning, water temp peaked at 51 degrees Sunday in permanent C&R. I just received an email from the MDC telling us they will increase the release from the dam by an additional 24cfs- this is a good thing, and will put us at about 220cfs, an excellent flow for fishing. Both streamers & nymphs are top choices if you don't have rising fish. We have had some great afternoon hatches of Blue Wing Olives #22-24 this past week along with Rusty Spinners in matching sizes. Winter Caddis #20-24 have been a light hatch in the early to mid morning. In the afternoons look for Tan Caddis #16-18, October Caddis #10-14 and Isonychia #12-14. Effective nymphs include Yellow Stoneflies #12-16, Black Stoneflies 8-14, Fox Squirrel Nymph #12, Egg Flies #12-18, Squirmy Worms #10-14 (red, tan, pink), Hot Spot Baetis #16-20, Blue Wing Olive #16-22, Rainbow Warrior #16-18, Tan Caddis Pupa #14-16, Green/Olive Caddis Larva #14-16, Pheasant Tails #16-22, Prince Nymph #12-14. Play with colors on your streamers, lately some of the better onew have been olive, yellow, olive/orange, brown, and black. Nothing lighter than 2x on your streamers, and go heavier if you are tossing really big ones. 5x fluoro is a good average for your nymphs,
